The Transforming Power of Christ—Dwell Church Values

This is the second in a series of four blog posts about the core values at Dwell Church.  We’re all about the gospel, community, transformation, and multiplication.

Transformation is at the heart of the Christian faith. Through Jesus, we are invited into a journey of becoming more like Him, each and every day. At Dwell Church, one of our core values is transformation because we believe that God loves us as we are but does not leave us as we are. Transformation is a lifelong process that touches every aspect of our lives—our thoughts, actions, relationships, and even our identity.

Transformation is a Renewing of the Mind

1I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

—Romans 12:1-2

The starting point of transformation is the mind. So often, we live according to the patterns and pressures of the world around us—seeking approval, chasing success, or believing lies about our worth. Paul’s challenge is clear: Do not conform. Instead, we are to offer ourselves to God and allow Him to renew our thinking.

This renewal is not just about intellectual growth; it’s about aligning our thoughts with God’s truth. Transformation begins when we ask, “How does God see this situation? How does His Word shape my perspective?” As we saturate our minds with Scripture, we begin to see the world differently. Our priorities shift, our responses change, and we become better equipped to discern God’s will.

At Dwell Church, we encourage one another to engage deeply with God’s Word. Whether through personal study, small group discussions, or Sunday teachings, we believe the Bible has the power to renew our minds and lead us into transformation.

Everyone Has A Next Step

6And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

—Philippians 1:6

Transformation is not a one-time event; it’s a process.  This verse is both an encouragement and a call to action. God begins the work of transformation in us when we place our faith in Christ, but it doesn’t end there. Each of us has a next step in our journey. For some, it may be forgiving someone who has hurt us. For others, it could mean stepping out in faith to serve, share the gospel, or trust God in a challenging area of life.

The beauty of transformation is that it’s deeply personal. God knows exactly where we are and what we need. And yet, it’s also communal. When we gather as a church, we encourage each other to keep moving forward. Sharing our next steps—no matter how small or significant—builds accountability and reminds us that we’re not alone.

At Dwell Church, we believe everyone has a next step. Whether you’ve been a Christian for years or are just exploring faith, God is inviting you to grow. We’d love to walk with you as you take your next step in experiencing His transforming work.

We Rest in God’s Promises

2Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.”

—1 John 3:2

Transformation is not only about what’s happening now but also about what’s to come.  This verse points us to the ultimate promise of transformation: becoming like Christ when we see Him face to face. While the process of transformation in this life can feel slow and incomplete, we have the assurance that God will finish what He started. We will be fully transformed, free from sin, pain, and brokenness.

This promise gives us hope and perseverance. It reminds us that our struggles and efforts to grow are not in vain. Transformation isn’t just about self-improvement or behavior modification; it’s about becoming who God created us to be. And the ultimate goal of transformation is to reflect the glory of Jesus.

At Dwell Church, we hold tightly to this promise. It fuels our worship, shapes our teaching, and inspires us to live with eternity in mind. As we rest in God’s promise, we are motivated to live each day in a way that honors Him.
